Even I was interested in similar scenario.
1. What happens when changing employers when I-140 and I-485 pending for less than 180 days?
2. From my understanding, the process needs to restart. However, do I have to do something to withdraw pending I-485.
3. Will it be termed as denied I-485 and create problems if I apply new I-485 with new employer?

If existing members don't show the commitment to the meetings or whatever we organize, then how can we expect new members to do anything?
I feel weird even saying this, but guys don't you know that it is simple courtesy to let the host know in advance if you can't make it?

I don't understand how you're drawing a conclusion about Canadian racism based on racial profiling by a French airline. I am Canadian, and I can tell you that our policies and general attitudes towards foreigners are better BY FAR than those in the US.

We have got good response. We'll know the exact numbers when we meet. Confirmed members may not show up, others may change their mind at the last moment and just drop by. It's hard to predict right now.
A lot of members are interested in "Knowing" what we are doing. Best way to know is "Participate". By attending the meeting you're getting added to the "MI chapter circle of trust" - that is members we feel safe in passing on sensitive and confidential info we get from IV core. We also feel it safe to pass on information about activities covered by IV Non-disclosure policy such as Lawmaker meetings and responses we get, with members we have met personally, talked and know their background. Posting such sensitive info here or on the google groups is not possible as it will be picked up by anti-immigrants trolling IV for such info.
Bottomline : Anybody missing the meeting is missing the opportunity to have access to IV "insider information" which will never be made public to people outside the "trusted circle".
Worst case, even if around 20 guys show up, it's a great start as I've heard that some chapters started of with 5-10 people and now have 100+ members. Don't worry, we will get there.

I heard Nancy say she would get started with some legislation that both parties and president agrees and she mentioned CIR. I think, if the republicans are smart they will quickly pass a version of it that they still can control - during the lame duck session when the old house returns for a few days.

If fighting for what's right is crazy, yes, I'm crazy. If standing upto fight for my career and my family is crazy, yes, I'm crazy. However, only a little more than people who expect to recieve GC in 2 years, without anybody doing anything to change the situation.

Situation was different in the recent past as thousands were caught hopelessly in BECs. There was no FBI check. No I-140 backlogs. No 485 frontlogs and backlogs. There weren't 300,000 to 500,000 applications pending for AOS.
5) Rally will not succeed. Even if does succeed, my non-participation will not make a difference.
Numbers make all the difference, in a democracy. When a politician sees a crowd, the thing that runs foremost in his mind is 'Votes'. More the merrier (the reason why undocumented aliens being 12 million are treated on priority basis compared to less numerical EB migrants).
When a senator/congressman is faced with a thousand 'Future American Citizens' ( so called 'Americans in Waiting') - he has two choices antagonize by ignoring them or help them achieve their goals. Any sane politician will opt for the latter, when those thousand future votes could mean the difference between re-election vs. defeat.
That's why it's important to show up in good numbers. If we approach them individually, they may and for all purposes will ignore us. But if we show up in good numbers, we will make them rethink their position and encourage to take more pro-immigrant positions.

My 485 application was also received my USCIS in second week of May '07. Does this mean that they have alloted visa number to me as well? I am confused :(

Why can't we move from a free service to a membership based and see how many people still continue ... evenif with 25K members it is only a handful who are active and part of the initiative ... so I would suggest to go for a membership ...
it could be a per month basis or pay a big amount and get membership for life or year ... say $200 for a year or $20 for a month ... we don't need the number/mass unless they are active in all way ... just my thoughts ... hope the IV core team will consider that ... enough of free rides ... now pay for it and get the access to forums ... :mad:

I filed my labor twice with Fragomen and got rejected in 2001 and 2002.
Just for H1B visa extension they took more than 9 months. Although they have all my papers for months. Eventually, I had to leave my employer for good.
Stay away from them if you have choice.
In my case they took 10 months to file my labor back in 2001. Instead of filing my case in June 2001, they filed my LC only in the middle of Feb 2002.
Also they never provide any update. Whenever you call them, they are always away from the desk and wanted us to leave a message. Even if you leave a message you don't expect any response from them.
When my I-140 was approved back in 2006, they filed my 7th year H1 extension. They chose 1 yr extension instead of 3 yrs. I pointed out that mistake 3 times and i never singed the form till they corrected it. It took four attempts to file my H1b extension.

All the talk on the forums were about visa data movements only in the last quarter. So the one month movement for Eb2-I and Eb3-I is kinda expected and is not really a disappointing news.
The dates would move forward. Based on the discussions here, there are around 80,000 visas still available for this FY. (50,000 pending from regular EB quota + some 27,000 due to AC21 backlog + 2007 share from Family other quota). For the USCIS to not waste any more EB visas, the DOS will have to move the dates forward. I am expecting that Eb2-I will be set some where in 2005 and Eb3-I will be set at the middle or end of 2003 in the coming 3-4 months.
This month also didnt improve EB3 (I) condition!!
Does this mean more and more will convert to EB3 whose PD is 2001-2004?

IV is basically saying EB3 folks stop all initiatives. Rather convert to EB2. It's comfortable to say IV core and decisionmakers are composed of EB2 folks.

aman kapoor is the president and founder of iv- of course you can argue he now has his GC but that fact is he is still the heart and soul of iv and runs the organization on a day to day basis. he is EB3.
the "core group" does not much exist in practical terms right now. there is instead a large "leaders group" that helps coordinate actions and strategy.
this group has a lot of active members- and i find it "comfortable" to say that the majority are EB3. which may actually count for something- since i actually do know somethings you don't :-)
no one stops anyone from doing anything. but whatever you do (and yes you actually have to DO, not just keep talking), has to have a sound basis. Many of the suggestions put forward have flaws, and actually papu and others have been pretty helpful in politely helping to point those out and suggesting changes. of course reddog took objection even to that! incidentally, just for the record, you may want to look at pappu's profile . HE IS EB3!

in 2007 ordinarily, (like 06) EB2 I and EB3 I would have got only 2,800 GC each. because of iv's efforts in reversing the july bulletin, EB3 I got a huge number of Gc instead. many more than any other category. i don't remember anyone else standing up and saying that this was unfair and that iv is all about EB3I. and that's what a lot of anti iv folks say. that iv is all about EB3 India. so this is very ironical.
and i see here a comment that every campaign has been bad for EB3 india.
i guess july reversal was bad. i guess the campaign for recapture is bad. and the 2 year EAD is bad too. not to mention the gathering support to end country quotas.

Immigrants have always been hated and reviled by those that got here earlier - but the current anti-immigrant sentiment is vastly different in scale and sophistry due to the times we live in. If every IV member signs up 10 citizens to the immigrant cause, we should easily be 100,000 strong in a couple of weeks. It could be anyone from your advisor at school who mentored you to your buddies at work - even the stinkin relatives should be harassed. Though CIS and Numbersusa pretend that they are a product of the current anti-illegal sentiment, they started out much before the so-called 'wave' started. And they have adapted and honed their strategies very well to crush whatever relief Congress contemplates/passes. Consider the way CIS was initially dedicated to 'researching' immigrant issues that they would complain about the media's positive stories about immigrant contributions as merely anecdotal evidence not worthy of rebuttal. Now they are suddenly fond of anecdotal evidence themselves since experts began demolishing their claims of job-stealing and other baseless charges convincingly(esp CFR's Sebastian Mallaby) using empirical evidence-they shamelessly stoop to use someone's sob story to make their case. So, as repugnant as their motives are, they are too transparent for their own good- and they can't cover their tracks -which is good for us since we are appealing to the fair minded. Remember - every one in the US is an immigrant or an offspring of one. They have always been hated and reviled -so if someone who benefited from the immigrant tradition of this nation wants to turn around and deny it to those following him/her even though their ancestors did the same thing at a great emotional/economic cost to the then existing natives- they have a higher bar in explaining why the current bunch shouldn't continue to benefit from the great tradition-merely being bigoted but sophisticated enough to hide it isn't enough. so don't lose heart but dont sit on your ass either.

Rep Lamar Smith from Texas is the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee and is a key member. His support will further strengthen the bipartisan support the bills currently has. He championed high skilled immigration bills in the past and we need to get his support on the bills that are before the Judiciary Committee now

Rep Smith has been a champion of high skilled immigration bills and I request Rep Smith to support similar bills such as HR5882, HR6039 and HR5921 that are currently before the House Judiciary committee. These bills have good bipartisan support and will increase American Competitiveness. I request Rep Smith to support these bills and increase the bi partisan support.
DO NOT get into illegal immigration discussion as that undercuts our message.
If asked whether you are from Rep Smith's district tell him/her that you are not from his district if you are not. Tell them that you called your rep and calling Rep Smith's office because Rep Smith is the Ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee and a champion of High skilled immigration.

I was in a similar boat as you when i filed my I485. I was forced to file 140 premium by itself as they stopped accepting starting july 2 07. So we shipped 140 on 29th june 07.On 5th july 07 my attorney shipped 485 with a FedEx acknowledgement of 140 doc acceptance and entire photo copy set of 140 documents
